Rt-n66u Wireless Upload Speeds Slower Than Download

  • #1

This is my first fourth dimension installing any version of Merlin. Im coming from the latest RT-N66U stock FW. I flashed RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_376.49_5 without issue. Everything works wonderful, wired speeds are nifty. Wired is 120/40.

Simply for some reason Im getting very slow upload speeds on wifi. DL is normal at 120mbps+ simply upload is very tedious at 6-10mbps. The stock fw was max speed at 40mbps on wifi. Just curious if information technology could but this latest build or something Im doing wrong. I besides gave the RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.43_2-06Ej9527 fork a try and its the aforementioned thing.

Any communication is appreciated. :)

Did yous practice a reset to mill defaults and then manually enter all setup info? Did you use a new ssid or remove and re-acquaintance on every device yous have the original ssid?

Effort simply using a new ssid beginning and if that doesn't improve things, I recollect a reset will be mandatory.

Did you do a reset to manufacturing plant defaults so manually enter all setup info? Did you lot utilise a new ssid or remove and re-associate on every device you have the original ssid?

Try simply using a new ssid kickoff and if that doesn't improve things, I remember a reset volition be mandatory.

Aye.. I've tried factory reset, Ive tried NV ram reset, hard reset, I forgot all wireless SSIDs and manually re-entered all info. I've done it multiple times on both Merlin builds. I just flashed dorsum to stock and now the upload speeds are tedious with stock FW also. Im stumped now.

I originally had a Buffalo ii.4ghz router with dd-wrt on it. I wanted to examination the N66U first, so I setup the N66U every bit an admission point. The N66u was definitely getting 120/xl on wifi, I simply checked with my speedtest history. After I verified everything worked perfectly I asunder the Buffalo and put the N66u in its place. I reset the N66u and flashed Merlin. I idea everything was working great but then I noticed the upload wireless speed was one/3 of what it was.

Do you think its possible that I was getting better speeds because it was an admission signal? The simply change I had made was making the N66U my main router, I figured things would run even improve.

Do you lot take QOS enabled? If and then, try it disabled and come across if it helps.

Do you have QOS enabled? If so, endeavor it disabled and see if information technology helps.

QOS is disabled. Thanks for the proposition.

Information technology has to be interference of some kind. I moved the router dorsum to the location where it was as an admission point and the speeds seems to exist back to normal. Its on the other side of my desk, no more 8 ft. Something must be messing with the signal. I just dont understand why I would however become full DL speeds?! I ruled out interference considering of that. Lesson learned, I guess.

Thanks for your help.

Fluorescent light (energy saving bulb)?

Fluorescent light (free energy saving bulb)?

Yep, I have 2 surrounding the router. :) Only close them both off only the speeds are the same.

Weird, I dont get it. The speeds are still not where they were. They're a little improve but non 120/40.. Im getting 120down but upload is spotty. Maybe I'll effort moving it into another room. Hmm. I desire my twoscore. ;)

1 last suggestion.....supervene upon the Ethernet cable between router and modem (I'chiliad assuming you lot're measuring speed to the internet)....Cat5e or Cat6.

Endeavour a unlike 1 even if the electric current ane is make new :)

EDIT: As well I forgot if you tried this or not....since you are replacing an existing router did you reset your ISP info past powering downward your modem for at least 15 miniutes?

One last proffer.....replace the Ethernet cable betwixt router and modem (I'm bold you're measuring speed to the internet)....Cat5e or Cat6.

Try a different ane even if the electric current one is brand new :)

EDIT: As well I forgot if y'all tried this or not....since y'all are replacing an existing router did you reset your Isp info by powering down your modem for at least fifteen miniutes?

I use a cat5 from the modem to the router and cat6 to all of my pcs. Thats the style I had it hooked up with the Buffalo besides. I tried the cat6 from the modem to the router just I get the same speeds.

Also, yes I powered down my modem for a while, multiple times. lol. :)

I idea I stock-still it for a second because one of the antennas felt loose, simply no die. Its tighter, but the upload is still spotty.

Idk, what else to try. I'll have to hook up the Buffalo every bit the main and the Asus as an AP like I had information technology before as a exam. I deceit imagine that would be the upshot, though. Perchance I messed up my antennas with all of this moving around?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Did you try deleting the wireless profiles on the clients and recreating them? (they actually contain info about the SSIDs they are connecting to)

We'll somewhen get through documenting everything in ane place:)

Yes.. :) I fifty-fifty made new ssid names on the router and forgot the erstwhile ssids on the phone. No go.

Finally!

I hooked upwards the Buffalo router and turned the N66u into an access point.. Same thing, crappy upload speeds. And so at least that answered one of my questions.

But I started to play around with the 5ghz radio.. I prepare it to 40mhz and changed the aqueduct to 153. I could take sworn I tried that numerous times subsequently I started having the problem just who knows.. BAM.. 40mbps upload screams. :)

I set the n66u support every bit the primary router inverse the settings to 40hz and aqueduct 153 and my wifi 40mbps upload is back and screaming! :D :D

Cheers for your help. Figured I'd requite yous the update since you lot helped me so much. :)
